Frequently Asked Questions
Am I dividing the "conservative" vote and helping a liberal win?
The short answer is no! If Dave splits the conservative vote, the Democrats end up in third place.
Do you want to send a message to Washington, DC and the Republican party? I would submit that it is time for individuals outside of these parties to be elected so Washington, DC and the Republican party can physically see that we are serious about reforming our federal government. A vote for a Republican or Democrat candidate is implying that you like the current situation of our country and would like for it to continue.
If a candidate has an "R" (Republican) behind their name does it mean they are Constitutional, conservative, and holding to our principles? I would submit that our current representative, Bob Inglis, is a likable gentleman, however, his recent record shows that a vote for him is almost like voting for a Democrat.
A party label only tells you a little about their view of the Constitution and the role of the federal government in our lives. We have had both the "R's" and the "D's" in power for many years. Are you satisfied with their work? Are you satisfied with how Bob Inglis has voted and stood for our district? To continue the status quo, do you vote for the "lesser of two evils"? Do you vote for a candidate who tells you they are a liberal and means it, or for a candidate who tells you they are Constitutional/conservative and does not mean it? How does a party label influence a representatives vote? Should a representative vote with their party or with their constituents? Are you guaranteed your representative will vote a certain way if they have the "correct" party label?
I would submit that if you vote your conscience and for the candidate who will stand for the Constitution and your freedoms then you will have no need to worry about a liberal being elected.
What is my job or role as a representative?
My primary responsibility is to uphold my oath of office to support, defend, and advance the Constitution of the United States against domestic and foreign enemies. This oath is taken at the beginning of each new Congress, “I, __________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.’’
In accomplishing this primary task, I will also be fulfilling my second duty of defending and advancing your Constitutional rights and liberties. This will help restore and preserve the power to the people and the States.
My third role is to be your advocate in Washington on issues that pertain to you, district four, South Carolina, and our country.
As your elected representative, I would consider these to be my major responsibilities.
Why I am Running for Office?
First some reasons on why I am not running:
-
I need a job
-
I want my life and the lives of my family made public
-
To have my personal and professional positions criticized and debated
-
To always be "on stage"
-
Because I want more responsibilities
-
To have my time schedule governed by the public and sessions of Congress
-
To be away from family when in Congress
Why I am Running:
It started a long time ago with the training I received from my parents and teachers about the history of America, the founding fathers, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the advancements of American society, the freedoms enjoyed by the citizens, the impact of the United States on the world, the battles fought to defend freedom, the development of a entrepreneurial and small business atmosphere, and much more. This foundation has kept me involved directly and indirectly in politics for many years.
This foundation gave a desire to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States for my family and future generations. I, and the founding fathers, all agree that the Constitution is not a perfect document. They developed Article Five to deal with this imperfection. For those who oppose the Constitution, what other governmental document can give us these liberties?
How did I decide to run for the seat currently held by Bob Inglis?
The first step is to check and see if the current leaders are being Constitutional in their representation. Over a year ago, I started to take a closer look at our congressional representative, Bob Inglis, and his votes, policy positions, and practical philosophy of the role of the federal government. Many years ago our current representative was concerned about limiting government to the Constitution and reducing the role of the federal government in our lives. Sadly, and unfortunately, he has become a different representative and he has openly proclaimed this fact. As the Declaration of Independence states, "it is time to provide new guards for their future security."
Next, an evaluation of declared and undeclared candidates needs to be done. This is also a time to analyze parties and what they represent. Do you select the lesser of two evils? Do you try to make changes from within or without? Will this person be able to campaign? Who is the party leadership desiring to be elected? Do we continue with the two-party status quo that have made most of the destructive decisions over the past 100 years? After meeting and discussing with different individuals it was determined that I should make preparations to campaign for the United States House of Representatives District Four seat to represent Greenville, Spartanburg, and parts of Union and Laurens county.
My acceptance is based on the simple desire to preserve and restore the freedom that Americans have enjoyed through the Constitution for so many years. At this time, leaders who are principled and Constitutional are needed to lead our district and country. I would appreciate your vote on November 2, 2010.
